Obelisk attended the SEAI Energy Show last week, and our Transport Manager, Deirdre Brady was invited to join a panel discussion on the SEAI EV Trial Scheme.
The EV Commercial Fleet Trial is a pilot scheme run by SEAI on behalf of Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland, providing businesses with the opportunity to trial battery electric vehicles as part of their day-to-day jobs, to showcase the cost and emissions savings that an EV fleet can offer.
Commercial fleets contribute to transport emissions in Ireland, and one way to help significantly reduce emissions is to encourage the move toward EV.
In 2023, Obelisk was pleased to be a part of the three-month trial; an important step toward our goal of eradicating 98% of Obelisk’s Scope 1 emissions and allowing us to deliver client projects sustainably and safely.
During the Panel discussion, Deirdre discussed how the trial was a success for Obelisk, providing enhanced insights and driver feedback on how fleet electrification could support our company’s day-to-day operations. We also highlighted how we navigated potential challenges with EV, including core EV education for our team on driving styles and overcoming range anxiety (the fear that the battery will run out of power before reaching its destination or a charging point).
Having started with 4 electric vehicles in 2022, we have since added 11 more in 2023, and have plans to introduce six more this year, meaning one quarter of our fleet will be electrified by year-end. Looking ahead to the future, Obelisk is aiming to see 50% of its fleet electrified within the next three years.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to SEAI for having us at the SEAI Energy Show and inviting us to be a part of this discussion. The Energy Show was a well-organised and informative event, and we look forward to attending again next year!
