Requirements:Vodafone required an experienced and competent partner to 1) transfer the existing Vodafone field force into Obelisk under TUPE (x38 staff) and 2) provide comprehensive managed service maintenance and build contract for their network infrastructure. This involves the provision of field engineering, program/project management, site acquisition, site design, rigging, civils, compound maintenance, air-conditioning, emergency generator and electrical maintenance services for c +2,000 2G/3G nodes and all main Switching Centres on the Vodafone network.

Obelisk was successful and won the contract. Obelisk continues its managed services on the Vodafone network.

Solution:Obelisk provides a strong program management infrastructure for Build and Maintenance activities. Its mangers and engineers are located countrywide, with the necessary skills and experience to ensure that all services are provided on a 24×7x365 basis within the required response times and budget, in line with Vodafone’s required SLA.

The following activities are part of the Managed Service Framework;

  • Site acquisition, design and construction activities
  • Field deployment and build activities,
  • Field operational and maintenance activities
  • Support and Maintenance contracts associated with the scoped field equipment (Access and Core).
  • Spare parts management of all the associated scoped field equipment.
  • Any associated maintenance /commissioning tools required to maintain/ commission the scoped field equipment.
  • Air Conditioning, back- up generators, tower maintenance, mechanical and electrical services, landscaping, cabin maintenance, warehousing.
  • Commissioning and Maintenance of temporary BTS’s/Node B’s for special events.
  • Decommissioning of sites/equipment
  • Customer in-house repeater solutions
  • Enterprise customer Drive & walk testing
  • Corrective maintenance on site and emergency support
  • Corrective maintenance for customer premises equipment
  • Network enhancement and work order implementation
  • Commissioning and field acceptance
  • Execution of First Site Application
  • Dispatching of field service staff and work order handling
  • Implementation of minor or major software updates on site
  • Preventive maintenance for network equipment
  • Preventive maintenance for glass fibre network (fibre cable and fibre tracks)
  • Preventive maintenance and repair of site infrastructure, buildings and surroundings
  • Deliver emergency power generator
  • Subcontractor management and on site surveillance
  • Administration of respective Operational Sub Systems (OSS)
  • Deliver On Site Support like check consumption of electricity, support inventory and asset management, etc
  • Support for special projects and initiatives
  • Preparation of performance reports

Obelisk Impact:Obelisk continues to deliver the managed service in a very effective manner, meeting all SLA requirements of Vodafone. In conjunction with the successful implementation of this build and maintenance service, Obelisk continues as main maintenance service provider for numerous other Telecoms companies within Ireland.
