Carrickduff 80m Temporary Met Mast

Scope: Site survey, design of mast supply and erection of 80m Met Mast and installation and commissioning of instruments and logger

Client:Enerco Energy Ltd

Location: Donegal Ireland

Date: Sep 2014

Requirements: The customer required wind measurement on site to see if it was viable to proceed with plans for a new wind farm in this location.

Access to site was very difficult as no new road could be made.

Solution: Obelisk designed and provided a means to measure wind variables over a 2 year period. Obelisk surveyed site and designed an 80m wind mast which would support the required instruments and logger to provide the info required to the customer.

System is fitted with GSM pack which sends e-mails daily with gathered data over the prior 24 Hours. In parallel, the data is stored in the logger for manual download at a later time.

From a safety and welfare standpoint it is noteworthy that Obelisk used a special low ground pressure tracked vehicle to access site and transport equipment and personnel to site.

 Project & programme management

  • Design and fabrication of tower
  • Site Supervision
  • PSCS Coordination (Project Supervisor, Construction Stage)
  • Civils works, including excavation for mast anchors and mast base
  • Erection of tower and installation and commissioning of all weather variables gathering instrumentation.

Obelisk Impact: The customer is now able to monitor the wind speed on site at different heights and also wind direction so they can accurately plan for future opportunities.
