Bord Gais
Before After

Scope: Straighten a critically shaped 70m tubular mast for Bord Gais.

Date: Spring 2011

Site specifics:
Partial bog, 1.2km walk to the site, no road access.
Previously a mast at this location had collapsed during high wind and was replaced with a new 70 m mast. Neither the original or replacement mast were erected by WMI. The replacement (70mt.) mast however began to show significant signs of distortion some time after it was erected.

WMI crew had gone on site visit and had concluded close to collapse and should not perform maintenance on it. WMI were engaged by BGE to assess and correct the problem.

Install: Flat, calm weather, team of 4 plus H&S manager on site. 1 day performance on site, plan went successfully and mast was corrected.

Requirements: The mast location was based on IEC61400. The anemometry equipment was installed based on Garrad Hassan guidelines.

Patricia O’Mahony, Wind Analyst at Bord Gais Energy said of the installation:

“WMI carried out the work to a very high standard of quality and safety and to the complete satisfaction of Bord Gais. The project manager, Brian Gervin and his team were efficient, professional and friendly to deal with. I have no hesitation in recommending WMI for any Met Mast type work.”
